ABOUT US

Who we are

Otter Point and Shirley are two separate rural communities west of Sooke, B.C. and were formally recognized by the Capital Regional District in 1995.

Where we are

The West Coast of Vancouver Island begins at Otter Point and Shirley.

Otter Point stretches in a narrow band along Otter Point Road, Kemp Lake Road and the West Coast Road from Sooke to Muir Creek (near Sheringham Point).

Shirley continues along West Coast Road from Muir Creek to Jordan River. Shirley includes Point no Point and French Beach Provincial Park.

Please be patient while this map loads-it's a very big file.

Use the Capital Regional District's Natural Areas Atlas to view Otter Point and Shirley features.

Why we live here

Most of the estimated 2,355 residents of Otter Point and Shirley are property owners who choose to live in this rural area for many reasons: affordable housing; larger properties; lower taxes; access to nearby forests, beaches and ocean; privacy; space to operate a home-based business and more.

Beaches

We have an extensive coastline with several beaches ... some beaches are easy to access, others are surrounded by rugged terrain. The Foreshore Access Report (10 MB) identifies and describes our beaches.
